About 3 years ago, I received a call from the son of a wonderful woman who had been a member of a church I served in Fort Wayne 1990-1995. Her husband had died of cancer while I was their Minister. I officiated at his funeral.
Now, some 28 years later, her son called asking if I would honor his mother’s request for me to officiate at her Memorial Service. After saying yes, I met with the family and was not surprised that they could not remember many details about her 100 years on this earth. Since I had only contact with her through Christmas cards, I really knew very littler about her life. Between her family and myself there was not much information for a nice Memorial tribute. This was not the first time this had happened over my ministry. Sadly, it was far too frequent.
